What to do in a

Club members spend a great deal of time ensuring their Porsches are running in top-notch condition – How about spending an hour or so to ensure you are armed with some knowledge if your “check engine light” comes on?

1. Come to Hospitality to learn about some common medical emergencies and their interventions. Discussion of WHEN to seek medical help.

a. Heart Attack    c. Choking

b. Cardiac Arrest  d. Stroke

2. Learn “Hands-on” CPR and Abdominal Thrusts (Heimlich Maneuver) to relieve choking in adults and children.

3. Members would be able to practice chest compressions, apply an AED (device to shock the heart back into a normal rhythm) on mannequins, and perform abdominal thrusts with a training device.

4. We will discuss the Good Samaritan Laws, which protect bystanders from liability when they act to assist others in an emergency.

WHY: Knowledge gives people the confidence to ACT – to advocate for themselves and others.

In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds. Survival increases when signs and symptoms of coronary artery disease are recognized and treated.

Immediate CPR can double or triple the chances of survival after cardiac arrest. Unfortunately,  only about 40% of people who experience cardiac arrest get immediate help.

Choking is the fourth leading cause of unintentional injury death. Of the 3,000 people who died from choking in 2020, 1,430 were older than 74.

Stroke is a leading cause of serious long-term disability. Symptoms of a stroke can be minimized if treated QUICKLY at the hospital.
